What is the Tovertafel UP?
Are you looking for a social and energetic activity for people with intellectual disabilities? The Tovertafel UP brings people with moderate to serious intellectual disabilities together in their natural surroundings. The result? A lot of fun and a lively and comfortable atmosphere. The games are unique because of their grown-up character and their accessibility for people with differing developmental levels. The Tovertafel has added value for each client: some actively join in on the fun, while others take part from a distance.
The Tovertafel is a little box that can be mounted on the ceiling, for instance, above the dining room table of a day care or care home. Inside the box is, among other things, a high-quality projector, infrared sensors, speaker, and processor that work together to project the games onto the table. Because the colourful objects respond to hand and arm movements, clients get to play with the light itself.

How was the Tovertafel developed?
Research is central to what we do. Not only did the Tovertafel emerge from the PhD research of Hester Le Riche, all our products are the result of a thorough design process. At Active Cues, we always have several students doing research for their studies.
We develop the Tovertafel games through the co-design method, working together with the target group and their environment. We talk with care workers and family members and each new game is tested with the clients. Because we actively involve them in the design process, we can tailor our products to their needs and interest, and thereby ensure that games will stimulate them as best as possible. "With the Tovertafel UP, we truly reach all of our clients. It is immensely difficult to come up with meaningful ways to activate clients with profound intellectual disabilities, but the Tovertafel is an enormous success. Our clients’ reactions, the simple assembly, its ease of use, and the astonishingly extensive service makes us all incredibly enthusiastic!"

Animal Sounds
Tovertafel OriginalListen carefully and match the animal sound with the right picture.
“Oohoe! Oohoe!” To which animal does this sound belong? Take on the challenge and practice listening skills. Mosquito? Boar? Owl? Pictures of animals are all over the table. Focus well and work together to touch the right picture. When all animals have been matched, a swinging reward follows!
Tip:Name the animals that you see and hear. Whose is this the favorite animal?

Shopping List
Tovertafel OriginalRemember the right groceries and put them in the basket.
A potato, toothpaste and bananas. In this cognitively challenging game, players can train their working memory by doing their shopping. Concentrate well on the shopping list with drawings. Then products fly over the table and players can load a shopping basket. Was this on the list? The messages are scanned. Bliep! The more good products, the more difficult it becomes.
Tip:Players can also work together. If you remember the banana, I will remember the fish.

Dominoes
Tovertafel OriginalWhat numbers are the same? Touch them, make contact and win!
The dominoes are broken in half. Both halves move one step to the left or the right. Does the amount of dots on the two domino halves match? Touch them quickly. The cognitive challenge increases: matching dots, numbers and eventually numbers with dots. Play against each other or just make pairs with the player on the other side. If you touch the same match at the same time, you both win!
Tip:Play in teams for extra excitement and success experiences!

Transport Puzzle
Tovertafel OriginalWork together to complete Transport Puzzle to reveal different vehicles
Transport Puzzle has pieces of a puzzle moving across the table. Will it be a fire engine? A digger? Or perhaps a lorry? Try to guess what the puzzle is before you’ve touched all the pieces and reveal a super-cool vehicle! Once touched, the puzzles move to the correct places on the board meaning it’s suitable for all levels and everyone can enjoy this well-known activity together.
